Uganda–Kenya Cross-border agreement for the Karamoja cluster

In mid-September 2019, the Presidents of Uganda and Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Kenya–Uganda (Turkana/West Pokot – Karamoja) cross-border programme for sustainable peace and socio-economic transformation for the Karamoja cluster. The draft MoU for the joint cross-border initiative can be found here and the joint workplan 2019–23 for the implementation roadmap can be found here.

Loupa Pius from the CELEP partner organisation Dynamic Agro-pastoralist Development Organization (DADO) in Karamoja, Uganda, wrote the blog “Who gains from the Uganda–Kenya cross-border MoU?”, giving his views on the significance and implications of the agreement.
