Strengthening capacity of Tanzanian livestock-keepers association

In the blog “Strengthening the capacity of Olengapa Livestock Association to better manage Olengapa cluster on a sustainable basis” (Jan. 2019), the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) reports on how the Participatory Rangeland Management (PRM) project facilitated the democratic process of Olengapa Livestock Keepers Association (OLKA) members to elect their leaders and gave leadership training in Kiteto District of Tanzania. OLKA is the local organisation through which PRM will be piloted in Kiteto District.

PRM is a 4-year cross-border project funded by the European Union through ILC (International Land Coalition) in Tanzania and Kenya. It is being implemented by TNRF, RECONCILE (Resource Conflict Institute), ILRI (International Livestock Research Institute), VSF (Veterinaries San Frontiers), SOS Sahel and CELEP (Coalition of European Lobbies for Pastoralism in Eastern Africa). Its overall objective is to improve the livelihoods and nutritional status of pastoralist communities in East Africa by improving rangeland management. PRM works toward attaining security and better use of rangelands and expanding women’s role in selected pastoral communities in the two countries.
