Pastoralism at crossroads: report from Youth Summit in Brussels

Emmanuel (Teba) Tebanyana, CELEP partner from the Karamoja Development Forum (KDF) in Uganda, was invited to speak on behalf of pastoralist youth at the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Africa Week held in Brussels, Belgium, in early November 2018. He took part in the Africa–Europe Youth Summit on the theme “Same Challenges, Equal Partnership, One Fight: Youth as Partners to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”, was a member in a panel discussion on “Climate Change and Food Security in Africa”, made a presentation to representatives of the European Commission Directorate General in charge of Development Corporation (DG DEVCO) and gave a lecture to students of agriculture at the University of Ghent.

The final resolution from the Youth Summit, which includes mention of pastoralism, will be a basis for future positioning of the S&D Group regarding EU–Africa relations. Teba’s report on his five days of lobbying activities in Brussels can be found here.

Teba’s visit was coordinated by Koen Van Troos, the Focal Point for CELEP with Vétérinaires Sans Frontière Belgium (VSFB).
