The main beneficiaries of the “Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Uganda on cross-border animal health coordination” (2016, 16pp) are transhumant pastoralists and other livestock farmers in the areas of the “Karamoja cluster”: the Karamojong of Uganda, the Toposa of South Sudan, the Dasanech and Ngangatom of Ethiopia, and the Pokot and Turkana of Kenya. The MoU covers cross-border movements both for sharing natural resources and for marketing, and thus benefits also all other actors along the livestock and meat value chain.
