The web article “Mobile pastoralists: the challenge of livestock markets in Karamoja, Uganda” by Loupa Pius of the Dodoth Agropastoralist Development Organization – a CELEP partner – was published in March 2019 in the “Impakter” series of the Global Forum in Agricultural Research (GFAR). The article explores livestock markets and the use of pastoralist mobility to enhance the growing cattle economy in Karamoja. It brings cases of good practice in the livestock trade not only in Uganda but also in northern Kenya. It discusses the challenges faced by livestock markets in Karamoja and makes recommendations for improving the livestock value chain and economy in the area.
