The very fact that the African Union (AU) has produced a framework document for pastoral policy in Africa is a big step forward and a great support to advocacy for pastoralism. The document underlines the rationale of mobile pastoral production systems and its positive response to new market opportunities, To draw attention to this important document, REGLAP (Regional Learning and Advocacy Programme for Vulnerable Dryland Communities) has issued a 2-page brochure in 2011 highlighting the key recommendations. The brochure is downloadable at: http://www.disasterriskreduction.net/fileadmin/user_upload/drought/docs/FINAL%20AU%20FLYER.pdf
The complete document from the African Union Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture „Policy Framework for Pastoralism in Africa: Securing, Protecting and Improving the Lives, Livelihoods and Rights of Pastoralist Communities“ (October 2010) can be found at: http://au.int/en/dp/rea/sites/default/files/Policy%20Framework%20for%20Pastoralism.pdf
