The report Rapid Livestock Market Assessment (2019, 34pp) by Antonio Rota, Guyo Roba and Ilaria Urbani is a guide for practitioners that was prepared by the Sustainable Production, Markets and Institutions Division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). It is intended for people making assessments in rural communities where livestock markets are being developed for the benefit of smallholder livestock producers and pastoralists. It provides practical suggestions and guidelines for determining what type of data need to be gathered; selecting appropriate data-collection methods and tools; and organising and presenting the results so that they can be fed into further project planning.
It includes best practices and case studies that can serve as examples. One case is an IFAD-funded project “Increasing household incomes for Maasai women livestock producers” by building the women’s capacities to market livestock products.
