Gender and climate-related conflict among Turkana in Kenya

The article “Gender and climate change-induced conflict in pastoral communities: case study of Turkana in northwestern Kenya” (2010, 22pp) by Nancy Omolo, published in the online African Journal on Conflict Resolution 10 (2), discusses climate change and its impact on pastoralism, particularly the types of conflict induced by climate change and how men’s and women’s livelihoods in Turkana pastoralist communities are affected. It includes a discussion of resulting changes in gender roles and participation in decision-making within the communities. It also looks at the future of pastoralism in relation to the changing climate and the possible increased conflict in the Turkana area.
