Focus on livestock to combat hunger in Karamoja

A development specialist from Karamoja in Uganda, Oscar Kanyangareng, published an article entitled “Here is how we can address chronic hunger in Karamoja” in the Daily Monitor (2015). It urges that development interventions focus on the region’s comparative advantage: livestock, as the most viable opportunity to harness scarce biomass resources for food production. The alternative sources of livelihood that should be promoted are foremost those that complement and supplement livelihoods from livestock.
