This HPG policy brief presents pastoralism as a cross-border activity that requires deeper understanding of the consequences of this mobility. Currently, governments are trying to solve the problems through unilateral action, whereas a more joined-up approach would promise more success. Regional bodies could play an important role in the coordination of cross-border pastoralism, especially to improve livestock marketing.
