The 2014 annual meeting of CELEP, hosted by Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VSF)–Germany, was held on 23–25 September at the headquarters of the organisation for development cooperation Misereor in Aachen, Germany. Several European members and Eastern African partners attended. Activities and accomplishments in 2013/14 in Europe and in Eastern Africa were discussed and opportunities for actions and activities in the coming year were planned. Some of the themes included: livestock keepers’ rights, biocultural protocols, and participation of pastoralists from Eastern Africa in discussions of the FAO-coordinated Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock.
On 22 September, partners from pastoralist civil society organisations in Kenya and Tanzania gave lunchtime presentations on “Pastoralism and conflict: perspectives from Eastern Africa”, at the External Cooperation Infopoint of the European Commission in Brussels. In addition, on 24 September, partners from Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda gave lunchtime presentations for Misereor staff on pasture and water managements in the drylands and innovative marketing approaches to build resilient pastoralist livelihoods.
