This 4-page factsheet (February 2014) “AGIR: building resilience to food and nutrition crises in the Sahel & West Africa”, compiled by the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO), brings facts and figures about the humanitarian situation in the Sahel and West Africa and the EU response through contribution to the Global Alliance for Resilience Initiative (AGIR) launched in 2012. AGIR defines resilience as “the capacity of vulnerable households, families and systems to face uncertainty and the risk of shocks, to withstand and respond effectively to shocks, as well as to recover and adapt in a sustainable manner.” the factsheet brings examples of humanitarian and development projects contributing to resilience in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger. None is directly related to pastoralism.
