For the Participatory Rangelands Project (PRM) in which CELEP is involved through its focal points Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Belgium (VSFB) and Resource Conflict Institute (RECONCILE), CELEP developed the toolbox “Increasing skills for advocacy” (2018, 20pp) This covers basic concepts related to advocacy and lobbying, and includes exercises to identify advocacy issues, propose solutions, formulate recommendations, etc.
Based on this toolbox, a training workshop was organised on 19–21 November 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya. On Day 1, Michael Odhiambo explained the continental, regional and national policy and advocacy processes underway in Africa and specifically in Eastern Africa. During the next two days, Koen Van Troos (CELEP European Focal Point) gave a basic training in advocacy. The CELEP member Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) hosted the training in its Kenyan office and contributed to the costs through its Voices for Change Programme (V4CP). The participants included partners implementing the PRM project (Tanzania Natural Resource Forum, Tanzania Land Alliance, Kenya Land Alliance), CELEP members and partners (SNV, Ujamaa Community Resource Team) and county/local government representatives from Tanzania and Kenya.
